Dr. Ramnath currently works solely in private practice. She previously served as a clinical psychologist for the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine Student Counseling and Wellness Center. She is also assistant professor for the College of Medicine's department of Humanities, Health, and Society. She was previously Associate Director of Counseling and Psychological Services at Florida International University.  Among her responsibilities were crisis intervention, individual/couples/group psychotherapy, forensic consultation, and departmental liaison. Further, she supervised and trained pre-doctoral psychology interns and post-doctoral fellows. Dr. Ramnath has also presented over 30 professional seminars.

Dr. Ramnath has been Adjunct Professor for the Department of Psychology Masters in Mental Health Counseling program at FIU from 2005-2012. There she taught Theory, Research, and Treatment of Addictive Behavior; Seminar in Adulthood and Aging; and Ethical, Legal and Professional Issues in Counseling.  She was also Adjunct Professor for the FIU College of Education Masters in Counselor Education/Clinical Mental Health Counseling and taught Educational and Vocational Counseling from 2008-2013. Dr. Ramnath also served as the committee Chairperson for over 20 Scholarly Papers for the Department of Psychology Masters in Mental Health Counseling students.

Dr. Ramnath has co-authored Personality Disorders in Modern Life-Second Edition with Dr. Theodore Millon. This is a graduate-level textbook that explores different personalities on a spectrum of normal to pathological. The book offers insight into how personalities develop and the way in which loved ones are impacted. Dr. Ramnath has also co-authored A Path to Recovery: A Workbook for Individual and Group Therapy for the Treatment of Addiction with William Berry, a Certified Addiction Professional and Licensed Mental Health Counselor. The workbook is designed to be used by clients who have decided to engage in the recovery process. Further, she and William Berry co-authored Addiction: a human experience, which is now in it's second edition. Dr. Ramnath has research articles published on the Millon College Counseling Inventory (MCCI). Further, her early research interests involved Internet Addiction, at which point she created the Online Usage Inventory.

ABOUT DR. ROWENA RAMNATH

Rowena Ramnath, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Origins of Serenity. She received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Forensic Psychology from Carlos Albizu University, Miami, Florida in 2004. Prior to that, Dr. Ramnath completed her clinical practicum experience at the Goodman Psychological Services Center (2000-2001) and South Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (2001-2002). From 2002-2003, she gained professional mentorship and experience from Dr. Theodore Millon, one of the psychology field’s noted experts in personality disorders. Both her pre-doctoral internship (2003-2004) and post-doctoral fellowship (2004-2005) were completed at Florida International University’s Counseling and Psychological Services.

Dr. Ramnath received her training to practice Holistic Health Counseling from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in 2011 and is board certified through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. Based in New York City, Integrative Nutrition is the largest nutrition school in the world. The school offers the world’s leading Health Counseling Training Program and teaches over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and cutting-edge coaching methods. In 2013, she completed advanced training in functional nutrition from the Holistic Nutrition Lab. She is now adept in identifying the impact nutrition has on the following body systems: Digestion, Immunity, Endocrine, Urinary, Brain, and Reproductive systems.  In 2017, Dr. Ramnath earned her certification as a Personal Fitness Trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association. Her training covered the principles of general personal training including anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, client assessment, exercise program design, general nutrition principles, motivation, special populations, and injury prevention.

The combined qualifications of a licensed clinical psychologist , holistic health coach, and personal fitness trainer in one provider is rare. Clients are able to have a truly holistic (all-encompassing) service-delivery that will target their major processes.
